Michael Berrigan - Wildlife Educator
I have always had a love and fond curiosity for animals of all kinds - and
from a young age I have often understood them better than I have the human
variety! I have had the opportunity to work with many animals such as birds,
dogs, cats, and small mammals in the past, and in addition spent two summers
working with horses and obtained a basic rider certification.
My fascination with reptiles/amphibians was rekindled fairly recently after
working with various animals in a retail environment and having enjoyed
working with 'herps' specifically, when the time came to move on I knew
exactly where I wanted to head next!

I began volunteering at the zoo, and though I was a little intimidated with
working with the larger snakes and various others at first, I quickly formed
a bond with many of the zoo animals, (as well as my fellow zoo-keepers!) In
addition, my own personal 'zoo' quickly grew as well! I greatly enjoy doing
public presentations at schools, public events, and birthday parties, as
every new day brings both a new challenge, and new opportunity to learn and
meet different people. I love teaching people of all ages about these
wonderful creatures and feel fortunate to be part of the zoo environment.
When I'm not at the zoo, you can find me playing/writing/listening to music
(my other passion; earning me the nickname "Drummer Boy") and I am currently
enrolled at Algonquin College in the Professional Writing program.
